Basic and Advanced Bronchoscopy Skills
With a Focus on Endobronchial Ultrasound

February 20-22, 2009
ACCP Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Education
Northbrook, Illinois

This session is an excellent opportunity for any health-care professional interested in basic and advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy. Participants can assess their current skills and learn new skills in a stress-free environment supervised by faculty members with expertise in bronchoscopy. A significant portion of the course will be dedicated to learning endobronchial ultrasound and its application in real-time guidance of transbronchial needle aspiration.

Each participant will have the opportunity to:

  • Assess and enhance basic bronchoscopy skills.
  • Perform flexible bronchoscopy on a simulator with a wide range of tasks.
  • Practice the skills of transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) using a separate airway model station.
  • Discuss bronchoscopy complications and practice the placement of endobronchial blockers on an airway model.
  • Learn about bronchoscopy in the difficult patient and practice intubation over the bronchoscope on an airway model.
  • Learn about endobronchial ultrasound and practice its use in real-time guidance of TBNA on a simulator and airway model.

Who Should Attend?

  • Pulmonary and critical care and thoracic surgery fellows and physicians/intensivists
  • Physician assistants and nurse practioners
