The CHEST Foundation Fact Sheet
The CHEST Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). The CHEST Foundation partners with ACCP members, their patients, and the public to raise awareness about the importance of lung health.
The CHEST Foundation's mission
is to provide resources to advance
the prevention and treatment of diseases of the chest.
Background: The CHEST Foundation has provided the resources to advance the prevention and treatment of diseases of the chest since 1996. By giving life to projects in local communities and across the world, The CHEST Foundation enables the ACCP to realize its vision of being the leading resource for the improvement in cardiopulmonary health and critical care worldwide.
By collaborating at the community level, The CHEST Foundation is able to develop education and prevention programs that serve as a catalyst to create innovative solutions that positively change thousands of lives.
Education: The CHEST Foundation supports initiatives in tobacco prevention, asthma education and management, critical care and end-of-life care issues, and awards for research and community service.
Advocacy: The ACCP/CHEST Foundation is a driving force in antitobacco efforts at every level and was active in litigation at US Supreme Court in 1991 and 1996 as author of amicus curiae for two landmark cases. The CHEST Foundation Task Force on Women & Girls, Tobacco, & Lung Cancer Speakers Kit promotes antitobacco messages at the local level. The CHEST Foundation supports pilot projects that educate health professionals, children, and adults in classroom and community settings.
Research: The CHEST Foundation partners with the medical and pharmaceutical industry to support chest medicine research, advances in end-of-life care, and humanitarian service. Specific areas of awards include clinical trainee awards, clinical research awards, and humanitarian awards to fund community health projects around the globe. In addition, The CHEST Foundation develops educational products to promote lung health in communities.
Publications: The CHEST Foundation publishes TaskForceTimes , a quarterly news publication of the Task Force on Woman & Girls, Tobacco, & Lung Cancer. In addition, The CHEST Foundation assists in the development of publications and patient education guides on asthma, COPD, and blood pressure.
