Philadelphia

Rich in American history, Philadelphia is a city of innovation. Three centuries ago, it introduced a nation to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and became home to many "first-in-America" institutions. Today, the innovative spirit lives on as "Philly" continually develops cultural, culinary, artistic, and ethnic treasures within the city and surrounding countryside. When in Philadelphia for CHEST 2008, expect to find more innovation in the form of cutting-edge updates in patient care and practice management strategies. Then, when it's time for a break, expect to find innovative fun.

Historic Philadelphia. Explore America's most historic square mile in Independence National Historical Park. Visit some of the nation's most sacred sites, including Independence Hall, Franklin Court, the National Constitution Center, the Betsy Ross House, and the Liberty Bell—an international icon of freedom.

Cultural Philadelphia. The world-famousPhiladelphia Museum of Art and hundreds of one-of-a-kind museums make Philly a museum lover's paradise. Be sure to visit the Mütter Museum, a quirky storehouse of medical collections, including 139 skulls and oddities that have been retrieved from people's throats and lungs. The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Broadway productions, the Pennsylvania Ballet, and more, round out options for cultural activities.

Family-Friendly Philadelphia. Philly is a family town with lots for families to do. Bring the whole gang and turn CHEST 2008 into a family memory when you visit the Philadelphia Zoo, Please Touch Museum, Fairmount Park, Sesame Place (in Bucks County), and other attractions.

Stylish Philadelphia. With no tax on clothing or shoes, shopping dollars go further in Philadelphia. And, with a booming retail scene, there's a lot to shop for. Bring an empty suitcase to fill with upscale finds from Rittenhouse Row or one-of-a-kind designs from boutiques in Old City. The nearby King of Prussia Mall is a shopper's dream with more than 400 shops, department stores, and restaurants.

Adventurous Philadelphia. If you're craving some fun in the fresh air and sunshine, Philadelphia and the countryside have more outdoor activities than you can shake a walking stick at. From horse trails to wine trails, and even Appalachian trails, the adventures are endless. See a weekly bulletin of outdoor area events at www.boundlessphiladelphia.com.

Delectable Philadelphia. Those who only think "cheesesteak" when thinking Philly food need to think again. Throughout the city, four-star dining rooms coexist with unassuming neighborhood bistros. Boisterous upscale taprooms counterbalance quieter hideaways, and family-operated establishments share the sidewalk with high-profile restaurants owned by star restaurateurs. If you're hungry, Philadelphia can handle your craving.
